While the schedule provides a consistent framework across the school year, it’s important to note that each week may feature small variations. For instance, the first period could sometimes be dedicated to a special guest speaker, an all-school assembly delivering important information, or a wellness class where students practise concentration techniques. Additionally, at IWA, all summative assessments and tests are scheduled on Fridays, alongside entrepreneurial projects, extended science laboratories, and any project-based activities requiring more time. This means Fridays will vary week to week, offering students unique opportunities to focus on deeper learning and collaborative projects, further enriching their educational experience.

In addition to the core subjects, IWA provides a variety of specialized courses designed to enrich the academic experience. These courses are available to any student interested in participating, regardless of age or background. The scheduling for specialized courses is flexible and depends on both the nature of the course and the instructors’ availability, allowing students to find options that fit their individual needs.

Below is an example schedule for two popular specialized courses: SAT Math and SAT English.

OUR APPROACH TO CLASS TIME AND HOMEWORK

At IWA, we deeply value time, both our students’ time and our instructional time. We believe learning should happen primarily in the classroom, where teachers can guide, support, and challenge every student. Our goal is for class time to be so effective and engaging that students do not need to learn new material on their own at home.

However, we do assign homework with a clear purpose: to help students build essential life skills such as time management, independent thinking, and a personal commitment to doing their best.

Every Monday, students receive their weekly homework plan, allowing them to organize their schedule and manage their responsibilities throughout the week. Homework time varies by grade level. For example, 8th‑grade students will have no more than 1.5 hours of homework per day.

Our balanced approach ensures students can thrive academically while developing the habits and skills that support long‑term success.

OUR APPROACH TO EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

At IWA, we strongly value our students’ extracurricular pursuits and are committed to supporting them as they explore their passions. We believe that students grow in powerful ways when they challenge themselves beyond the classroom, whether through sports, arts, community service, leadership, or any activity that inspires them.

We understand that sometimes students may need to miss class in order to participate in extracurricular activities. To help them fully embrace these opportunities while maintaining their academic progress, we offer dedicated support to assist students in catching up and staying in sync with their coursework upon their return. This ensures that students can pursue their passions outside the classroom without falling behind on their academic responsibilities.

TAKING CORE SUBJECTS WITHOUT A FULL SCHEDULE

Students interested in taking some core subject courses, rather than a full schedule, are welcome to do so if space permits. Each class accommodates a maximum of 10 students, so enrollment depends on available classroom capacity. When a spot is open, these students participate in the core subject class alongside those on a full schedule, ensuring a unified learning environment. Those opting for this arrangement must commit to the entire academic year for the chosen core subject course.
